Tethering on the htc thunderbolt

Will you be able to tether on the thunderbolt? Will it need to be rooted like the other androids, and will z4root work on that device?

check in the thunderbolt forum...but most likely, it will be rooted fairly quickly, and you will be able to modify the stock wifi tether or install wireless tether for root users from the market and do that.
