tethering - Ipad

Would prefer not to root.

Per Easy tether folks - none of the Droids will tether to the iPad2.
My guess - as it was not clarified - is that there is no EasyTether app to install on the iPad.

per the PDAnet FAQ's :

Unfortunately with current Android OS (up to 2.1), no tethering solutions will work with iPad unless you root your Android phone first.

Unlike iPhone jailbreaking, rooting Android phones is not recommended for normal users. We have no plan to support it.

No you tether a laptop, then you use the laptop as a wireless router. Ergo tether an iPad. It works great.

Confused -
You tether a Droid to the laptop, then use the laptop as a wireless router, then the iPad connects to the laptop?

Yes that is correct. The other way is to root your phone and create a wireless hotspot. I don't want to root my phone so I use a ubantu Linux netbook for the router/hotspot.

Kind of what I thought.
Though idea is to leave Notebook at home and only have my phone and iPad with me - and not root the phone.
But, if I HAVE to root the phone- which root 'program' is best.

How do I turn my laptop into WIFI? Just use the Wifi Adhoc and connect my iPad 2 to that? hummm I was hoping there would be an easier way to do this besides carrying my laptop around with me. My laptop is huge. Oh well I might as well pay the $30.00 a month. Darn it! Stupid Verizon. I'm going to switch back to Sprint the first chance I get.
