Tethering from droid x to iPad

My husband bought me an iPad 2 and Im really struggling with liking it. He pd for 3G service because we don't have wifi in our area. The only way I want to keep this thing is if I can tether from my droid to my iPad. I don't want to pay another Internet fee. I have read other forum posts about this but can't seem to find anything about tethering using 3G instead of wifi. I have easy tether on my phone that I use for my computer and figured surely it can be used for the iPad as well. I don't wanna do all the rooting crap that everyone talks about either. Can't I somehow use the iPads cable to connect to my phone for Internet? Please someone help me. I am not a big techno person so if u have a solution please speak in plain English because I am stupid!

Without root, you'll have to pay for a mobile hotspot plan which is another $20 or $30 a month.
