Without rooting, PdaNet would be my choice...others like Easy Tether Lite. Both of these have a free and paid versions...try each and see which you prefer...

I tried pda net and used the 3g on my laptop. Is this ap unlimited or does it have a limited usage like other apps with lite versions? And what else can you do with this app?
