He made the instructions a lot easier. Here is the post from MyDroidWorld
MY additions are in Blue
How to change your boot image: Droid X and Droid 2 Style

Tools you need:

Image Editor: I use Photoshop CS4 Gimp(It's Free!) -Download
Hex Editor - I use FRHED its free - Download

__________________________________________________ ___________________________________________

1) Creating the image:

Using photoshop, create an image that is 480 pixels wide and 182 pixels tall.
** WHATEVER COLOR IS THE BORDER (1PX) WILL BE THE COLOR OF THE SCREEN **
Mirror the image, image > image rotation -> flip canvas horizontal - Gimp calls it Flip Horizontal
Save image as a bmp file (24 bit)

2) Editing the image:

1) Using the hex editor, open up your image and erase the first 54 bytes and last 2 bytes of data. See my #5 below about the last 2 bytes
2) Reverse the data, using frhed go to: edit -> reverse bytes
3) Save your file as logo.bin
4) Place your logo.bin image in the LogoReplacer.zip

5) Flashing your new Boot Image

1) Place your LogoReplacer.zip file on your SDCARD
2) Restart your phone into recovery
3) Install zip, choose zip
4) Navigate to your file
5) Press the camera button
6) Restart phone
High level version of what we are doing:
1. create 480x182 24 bit windows .bmp logo
2. mirror logo
3. depending on your logo, you may want to flip it horizontal.
4. open up frhed, delete first 54 bytes.
5. depending on your logo, you may need to delete the last 2 bytes, however, you want your file to be exactly 262,080. if deleting those last 2 bytes puts you at 262,078, then your colors will be off: do not delete the last 2
6. reverse the bytes
7. save the file as logo.bin
8. replace the logo.bin file in the original post zip archive with your newly created logo.bin
follow the instructions to put on sdcard, boot into recovery, and install

What programs are you using?

Sent from my DROIDX

GIMP, FRHED, and 7zip

Gimp to size and mirror the images
FrHed to cut the first 54 bytes out, reverse the bytes, and save as logo.bin
7zip to delete the logo.bin out of the package and drop my logo.bin in.

"Stock" Motorola [ M ]

I made it, it's not the original, but I would guess it would pass for the original.

The M logo may be larger than the original, I was going from memory.

wow...this seems really easy if you use someones logo (like the jedi...yeha). Is it really as easy as just going into recovery and installing that zip?

Yes sir! You would want to read the install instructions for sure, but high level view is:

  • put zip on sdcard
  • reboot into recovery
  • choose install zip from sdcard
  • find zip
  • install zip
  • reboot
