Stop Google

How do I stop Google contacts from syncing with my phone? I want to use the verizon back up only.

A strange request but go to settings/account sync look for your Google account ...

Why is this request strange? Is one better than the other? Why? all I know is I have to stop one of them, I am getting duplicate entries and other wierd stuff in my contacts. I am open to suggestions for either one.

In contacts go to settings. Then contact storage. It'll give you a choice of where to back up to.
One difference is that google backs up the contact avatars as well.

Strange because most android users would rather use Google. Not often seen in reverse ....

I've had issues with Verizon Backup Assistant. I export the contacts from Verizon Backup Assistant site and import them into Google Contact on the web.
Too many issues on android to use Backup Assistant.
Do a factory reset and start over.
