Any ideas on why this has started happening above my status bar?

It was fine until last night. I thought at first it might be an issue with Buzz Launcher, but it does the same thing on the stock launcher. I've noodled with every setting I can think of, but no joy.

Wow..I'm sure you've already tried removing the battery and all the minor steps.... Did you get it wet or drop it??

Nope, didn't drop it or get it wet. I tried removing the battery for 10 minutes, made sure there was no dust or anything under the hood. When the phone first boots up, the status bar is normal, but it quickly returns to weirdness.

I'd clear the cache.. See if that helps.. If not try an fdr.. If it still does it.. Its hardware... Sorry.. In situations like this I like to eliminate software quickly... So you can move on to getting it fixed or replaced...

Cached cleared. I think you're right that an FDR is in order. Sigh. :(

Well.. At least your device supports an SD card.. Makes it a little less painful..

Yes you could.. If you want to go through app after app.. If you have that kind of time.. Feel free... This way.. You eliminate software or hardware.. Quickly.. Then you get an answer.. If it was an app..if it's hardware.. Do I need a replacement phone.. All found out in a few minutes..

Another way would be to boot into safe mode.. Run the phone with just it's core apps..

SOLVED!

94lt1, thanks for suggesting safe mode. The problem was gone while I ran it, so I was able to rule out a hardware failure.

Once I booted back into normal mode, I took sajgel's suggestion to identify the most recently installed apps. The culprit was something called Omni Status Bar, which I can't even remember downloading. I uninstalled, and everything's back to normal.

Thanks for helping me figure it out! :D
