starting to get fed up with messaging

I want to start by saying I love/d this phone phone for many reasons, however since my primary for of communication is text messaging this may be my first and last adroid device.

First sometimes I don't get text messages at all, and I mean frequently, rarely happened with my voyager, most of the time if I tell someone I didn't get a text I was lying, now not its true.

Second if my phones shut off for whatever reason, any texts sent to me during that time I never get, my old phones soon as I turned it on I got em.

Lastly and almost the most frustrating, I will receive a txt, get the notification, first however many characters will be in the pull down but when I click on it the message isn't their, or anywhere, just gone like it never existed.

Any suggestions would. Be appreciated, and before anyone asks it happens both with the stock app and handcent

I never had an issue with text messaging for anything, well cept for one mms.

Are you using the stock app or some third party app?

I switched to Handcent after about a week and have never had any problems having to do with not getting a text

I guess I can count myself lucky. Never had texts disappear, never not received text, and email always works fine for me.

I am using the stock messaging app, but used Handcent without issue as well.

I don't know if you have, but i would call VZ on it. I have never any problem with the Handcent app or default messenger app I am currently using. Sry

I've experienced your third issue as well with the notification appearing and then the message disappearing. I'm using handcent.

That is mostly something with your phone beacouse I actuly adore my texting on this phone better than my voyager this Droid has never had not even one symptom on anything like that.

Download and use Handcent instead of the stock application, and also K-9 Mail to replace the stock mail application.

One of the best things about the Droid is that if you don't like something most of the time you can download a replacement for free:icon_ banana:

I wouldn't even call Verizon. You should take the Droid back, pick up a Blackberry, and join the crackberry forums.

Sounds like a network issue more than the device.... unless it's the device having trouble connecting/staying connected... in which case go to a store and see what's up, might warrant an exchange.

+1 For this response.

I had gotten a BB and I thought all was well in the land of Verizon and Alec when come to find out I wasn't getting *any* of my messages nor was anyone getting mine.

I went in, got it looked at, we troubleshooted it for a month, etc. It was network related. For some reason when I upgraded, my phone number didn't build correctly into the network when it was reactivated on the new phone.

Odds are, they will have to remove your number from the network and rebuild. Go to Verizon.

Thanks for the mostly good responses, I will try the call Verizon route and see how that works out. I have some other issues as well with mms so what nerdbox mentioned seems like the most likely issue for not receiving texts

I've had the new text disappearing issue a few times. Very rare, but it has happened. It seems to have happened in a couple instances when I checked the message immediately when it was received. It'll appear, I'll hit the messaging app and the message is on that main screen, then tap the message to open the conversation and it is gone. Only happened a 3 or 4 times though.

The problem I have with the stock messaging app is that it cuts off after 160 characters when sending long messages to other carriers. Gotta use handcent so that it breaks them up... although i'd prefer that functionality in the stock app.
