It's easy to get caught up in all of the rigamarole of the hype caused by the flagship devices coming next year. We shouldn't forget that not all of us go after the ultimate cutting edge device. For folks who need a more affordable option, we have some intel for you. The latest rumors from Samsung suggest that two mid-range devices are coming next year with decent specs. Here's what we have heard:

Galaxy E7 -
  • 5.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED screen
  • 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 13-megapixel rear camera
  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 2,950 mAh battery - non-removable
  • 7.2mm thick housing
Galaxy E5 -
  • 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display
  • 8-megapixel rear camera
  • 2,300 mAh battery - non-removable
  • Other specs are the same as the E7
  • 6.9mm thick housing
What do you guys think? If they are affordable, will these devices appeal to the budget conscious crowd? What's interesting about these devices is that we have heard stories about numerous Samsung executives getting fired for too much device spam out of Samsung. Could these devices be a small part of the rumored down-sizing in the total volume of different devices from Sammy, or will this be business as usual?

Where they need to downsize is in a few models screen size. A good lens on a shooter at 3mp will make very nice prints, no need to compete with stand alone cameras in the mega pixel war. Quad core at under 2ghz is so last year but will be more than adequate. Just last year 2gig RAM was a wow factor so no need to increase that either. 4-4.5" of screen with decent, yet not cutting edge, specs could give them a niche in the market since everyone and their brother is competing for sharpening the edges on the included gear and making screens bigger than stand alone gps units.

Samsung knows what they are doing in the mid to low tier phones. It's why they dominate 80% of the world market.
