SNES quickie

I couldn't find what the problem is, but what am I doing wrong? No one answered me in the other post so I have to make a thread.. :/
Just a fast answer, I got SNES>freeroms.com>SNES>*game*>Download>RUBBISH!

Just takes me to this weird foreign looking script after hitting download. Help♥

Yeah, I have the same probem sometimes when downloading the SNES files. The way I figured out to get around it (besides just using my computer and transferring the ROMS over) is this:

1. Dowload Androzip from the marketplace

2. download the ROM from freeroms. It will save with the file extention .txt

3. Use Astro to locate the saved .txt file and rename the extension to .7z, which is what the extension is supposed to be when downloaded from freeroms. (a different kind of compressed file) So instead of madden94.txt, it should be madden94.7z

4. Open androzip and locate the .7z file and decompress it. The files will appear and will be useable.

Its a bit pain, but it works when you are out and about and don't want to have to mount your droid to your computer. It is easier then it sounds at first though.:)

You have no idea how much you have just helped me, thankyou so muchdancedroid
edit: ignore everything above, yes while i do appreciate the effort and i am sorry the
inconveinience (two words in the world i can't spell, that one right before this parentheses section, and sphychic) but the problem is that you can't download the file, instead in just goes to the coding of the file and you stare at it in disbelief as it snickers at your fetal attempt to play snes games.

I don't understand why there is a need to unpack or rename ROMS for Snesoid BUT for Gensoid and GameBoid there is no need?

And after I unpack a ROM which file do I play there are so many that show up for one game? Furthermore, can I delete the files that I can't play? and the one that plays just starts out in the game, no intro AND when time runs out the game just freezes?

I have started off with one game Donkey Kong Country downloaded from Freeroms and I WAS able to use Dolphin HD to download directly to my phone and the extension was already .7z

Please help :motdroidhoriz:

I hooked pinball wizerd up with a bunch of roms, send me a list if you want and ill get your sorted

Are you guys using macs? On my IMac in order to download, you have to hold Ctrl + click and say "Save Target As..." If you click the links for ROM's on a Mac, it will show text only.

I am a little surprised, shocked and saddened that there are so many users on the forum that we KNOW from other threads use the SNES emulator but no one will help us. :(

Well, I guess that leaves us to figure it out for ourselves so here goes:

Part 1: Downloading a SNES ROM from the internet to your phone:

1. Go to a website that has roms freeroms etc
2. When you find a download link to a rom that you would like hold your fingure on the link and you will get a choice of what to do (I am using Dolphin HD browser so it may be different depending on your browser) select SAVE LINK. This will download the rom to a file instead of just displaying the code in your browser. Note your file will be downloaded with the extension .txt

Part 2: Renaming your file to .7z
1. Open up Astro file manager
2. Locate the file you have just download and change the file extension.
3. To do this hold your finger on the file until a menu pops up.
4. Choose EDIT
5. Another menu pops up select RENAME
6. A text box with the name of the file pops up. Change the extension from .txt to .7z
7. A warning message will pop up and you will click OK

Part 3: Unzipping (unpacking) your file
1. Open up AndroZip
2. Locate the file you have just renamed.
3. Click it once (do NOT hold your figure on it as that will open up an option menu)
4. A menu will pop up titled CHOOSE ACTION
5. If you already created a folder to put your roms in choose EXTRACT TO: then navigate to that folder.
6. At the top of the screen on the left will be a button EXTRACT HERE. Choose this button.
7. Next a window will pop up that says UNPACKING 7z. It may take a while for this to work so be patient.

Part 4: Playing your new ROM
1. Open up your SNES emulator
2. Navigate to the folder where your ROM is located
3. You will see at least two maybe up to 6 different files that are called what ever game you downloaded but have a different letter at the end like U or E. and all files will be .smc
4. Go through all the files and see which one works. Some are different languages and others just won't work.
5. You can delete the unused .smc files and the origianl .7z file if you like.

NOTE: Androzip DOES have the ability to rename BUT for some reason after renaming the file it would not unpack. I had to go back and do it again with Astro.

Enjoy!! :)

PS: If anybody knows an easier quicker wasy (without a computer) to download and play SNES ROMS on your phone PLEASE let us know.

For SNES, the files that are the actual rom will be .sfc or .smc. Sometimes they will have stuff after the rom title like (U) (E) (J) etc. that's a language code, U=USA, E=Europe, J=Japan. There are other codes that can mean certain other things such as;

[!] = tested and working/good rom dump
[t] = trainer (aka there's a built in cheating device that is loaded usually with on screen instructions right before the rom loads along with what hacking group put it there)
[h] = the game's been modified/hacked in some way to fix something or alter a sprite (sprite=character image, monster image, etc.) or graphical appearance.

etc.
