If you want the most powerful smartphone in existence, you will have to fork over $800 USD and put your own software on it. Qualcomm now has their next-gen developer edition device available for the tinkerers among us. Their Mobile Development Platform Smartphone is the first device to include their latest and greatest technology, the Snapdragon 810.

Here's a list of specs and features of this next-gen superphone:
  • Android 5.0
  • 6.17-inch QHD (1600x2560) display with 10-finger multi-touch capacity
  • Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor
  • Adreno 430 graphics unit
  • 4GB of LP-DDR4 RAM
  • 13MP OIS rear camera with dual LED flash - can shoot 4K video at 30FPS and 1080p video @60 fps
  • The front camera is 4MP auto-focus unit that's able to take 1080p video at 120FPS
  • 11.1 surround sound with Dolby and DTS
  • USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.1
  • Snapdragon StudioAccess technology and SecureMSM digital rights management
  • Fingerprint reader
  • 3020 mAh li-ion battery
  • 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope, a 3-axis magnetometer
  • Ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, pressure sensor, temperature and humidity sensor
  • There's a UV sensor, and a Mobeam sensor - which allows you to scan, collect, and send barcodes with "blinking light"
  • 8 microphones
For the gear-heads that want to delve deeper into the technology of the Snapdragon 810 itself, here's a breakdown: The 810 is based on two sets of four Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A53 cores built on a 20nm process, and is up to 50% more powerful than the ARM Cortex-A15 32-bit core of the Snapdragon 805's Krait 450 cores, yet will still retain the same power efficiency of the 801 and 805.

Keep in mind that this phone was not meant for regular retail use. There are certain aspects of it that will make it impractical to be a "daily driver." It's still cool to get a glimpse of the cutting edge in mobile tech!

Very nice. That is almost exciting enough to get me to take back my Turbo... I said almost!

Wish the Turbo had gone 810 and 4GB but the 805 is still a beast, even with just 3GB.

Far too big, but it is a beast! 11.1 surround sound?? Wow....

What a beast. Make it with a 5.2 inch screen with the same size battery and I'd buy it today and spend my holiday time off to make a rom and kernel for it.

C'mon, how do you go 11 channel surround and not support a second sub-woofer? I mean, seriously ;)

8 microphones? And they are on all the time draining battery?
I was expecting at least 4k mah battery for a tablet that size.

11.1 surround on a smartphone not only made made me laugh, but everything else just lost all relevance. What a joke.
