Sms messages

The following happens occasionally: When I receive a sms message, the original text comes through fine. However, few minutes later I get small bits and pieces of the original message sent to me in about 10 separate text messages ( sometimes more ) from an unknown telephone number. When I call that number it rings my cell phone (which leads me to believe it may be a verizon issue).*

A friend told me it might have something to do with google voice,but I disabled google voice and the issue still persists.

Any thoughts?
