two popular sms apps are handcent or chomp - i use handcent but im suggesting check out both

I still have the Droid 1 but you might check the market for Hancent SMS I think you will like it tons of features if it's available for the X

Handcent its great. I have to play around with the app because I was getting double notification but I figured out. I needed to disabled the main notification and then the duplicates stopped. Thank you.
