Sleep mode while using Google Navigator

I've tried everything I can think of but my Droid X will still black out or go into sleep mode while I'm using Navigator. Doesn't matter if its plugged in and charging. doesn't matter if I've selected the option Never go into sleep mode if plugged in. it either blacks out at 3 mins...or 5 minutes.
Very annoying. It will even black out while she is announcing my next turn.

any help?
