Got my X, and was rooted 5 minutes later. lol. Well my droid 1 was rooted also(wife has it now). Rooted with z4.

Nothing z4 will work just fine. Root away. You won't be disappointed.

Rooting a droid is like sex... Better when your not alone in the task, and risks that may make you want to cry.... But worth it

Root using z4root but don't install a custom rom or recovery (its not worth the risk because of the locked bootloader).

Anything set for the dx is just updating system files... Using a rom meant for the veesion you are on should be ok. Just be sure to read the threads about it and understand the things you may have to do. Personally, I can not stand using the stock ui anymore, too many custom ones that just look and feel better.

If you plan on flashing roms you will need Droid x bootstrapper from the market. Also, rootexplorer is great for us root users.
