Well, here is my $0.02...take it for what it is...
Forget all this "wait for so and so phone" BS. Yes, I said BS, and thats exactly what it is! I get so tired of hearing people ask "whats a good phone", and then the next 5-50 replies are from people telling the person to wait for the "insert rumored phone model", instead of just giving an honest, no BS answer.
The Targa, Bionic, Nexus whatever will all eventually come out, and yes, they will be awesome phones...for about 6 minutes until the next press release and the next set of rumored phones hit the wire. Dont believe me...look no further than the Thunderbolt. This phone was supposed to be a game changer since it has LTE...and already in this thread there is a recommendation to stay away from it..the "flag ship" LTE device on Verizon...
I buy my phones based on my simple criteria check list...
1) Do I think I can use it and not complain for 20 months
2) Does the fit and feel of the device actually appeal to me..is the build quality there?
3) Are the reviews of it honest or just "fanboy musings"?
4) What is the call clarity and reception reviews looking like. good/bad/2 soup cans and some string?
5) Will it last an entire day on the stock battery and no additional apps to have to use?
Using those checks, I purchased a DX back in August of last year...and I have been thrilled with it. It does everything I want it to do, things i dont know how to do, and it can be "dressed" anyway you like it with the abundance of themes and ROMS that are out for it. It simply is a great phone..and I am quite happy with it. I dont need some "super-techno-news junky" to tell me what I need in a phone, or that I need to wait to gets the newest piece of plastic and glass on the market...I just need a phone that does what its supposed to do...and thankfully, I got that in my DX.
As far as you OP...go to the Verizon store, pick up several comparable devices that are already in the Marketplace, and have a proven track record...stack their specs against that 3GS you are using, and then make a decision based on your personal needs...I am sure you can do this.
For reference, I would pick the X, DX2, Thunderbolt, and DINC2..with the DX being the oldest of the bunch, and go from there...Happy phone hunting...
I think you're speaking too generally though, for people waiting.
I've had the OG since the day it came out, even if I wanted the DX( and I didn't), I couldn't have gotten it.
You're seeing a lot of people saying wait, because we've already waited 2 years(or 20 months) for our next phone.
Those of us with the OG aren't going to just jump and buy a DX because it's a good phone now that we can upgrade, we're going to wait for the Bionic or it's equivalent.
You say phones are out dated within "6 minutes", while I don't entirely agree, there is some truth in that statement.
The fact is, telling someone
not to wait for a superior phone, when we've already been waiting for our next upgrade I think is a disservice to the people.
The fact is the only phone that's been revealed being worth upgrading from the OG is the Bionic/Targa. The x1, x2, d2, d3 aren't worth the upgrade, they simply aren't.
You can say it's "bs" to wait for a phone with an unknown release date, but I say wait for an upgrade that
actually matters. Wait for an upgrade that really changes the way you can interact with your phone.
