There are a few this is just one of many
SMS Everywhere - Send text messages SMS to cell phones
dunno about receiving the text on the computer but also you can use google voice if you have it setup so it sends from your google voice number, or you can just email the person at their tendigitnumber@vtext.com if its verizon or you can look up the domain for other carriers such as at&t and so on.

Somewhere on Verizons website you can text from your computer. And then there is Google Voice, if you go there on your computer you can send text from your computer that way as well.

I use the app RemoteSMS....It allows you to send and receive SMS remotely via wifi.

I have this phone tools app(not in the market) it allows you to connect to your computer through wifi and you can send,recieve, and a ton of other activities. When you push the connect button it will give you a url that you type into your computer.

Sounds exactly like Easy SMS. I use this all the time. It is easier for me to type on my computer than my Droid for some reason

How to get a Key for EasySMS? That's the donate version?

I send them from PC and laptop using Google Voice all the time, no additional software needed!

Sadly Voice is only for US.
