Sd card path and wipes

When I am looking at my nexus files, I see two locations called "sdcard". There is one in the root directory at "/sdcard" and another at "/mnt/sdcard". Which one is supposed to be untouched by wipes? Does the method of wipe matter? Is a factory reset from within android the same as wiping from recovery?

Thanks.

YO,
A facotry reset wipes all data from the phone, inculding the "sd card" partition. When you wipe from recovery, if you DO NOT WIPE DATA then you do not touch the "sd card". If you wipe data and/or a factory reset that does wipe data from the "sd card". hope this answers your questions.

Just an fyi, Factory wipe does not include the sdcard folder.
