Screen won't turn on, phone functional

Hi All,
I have a Verizon Droid X which I have had issues that I think are software related.
Basically, sometimes when the screen is off, I hit the power button to turn it on, and the screen is black (the backlight is on but the whole screen color is black). If I get an email or something I still hear it beep, so the phone is functioning, I just can't get it to display.
Nothing resolves it temporarily except a battery pull.
I have tried rooting it and installing Apex 1.4.1, Cyanogen nightlies (latest), and of course OTA Froyo and Gingerbread, but the issues persist.

Any ideas what might be causing this?
Here are common apps I used:
Titanium Backup, Smart Keyboard, Pandora, Unified Remote, Doggcatcher, Facebook, Google Voice, aCar, Dolphin Browser Mini, Zoodles.
Thanks for any help.

You're going to have to do a factory reset and see if the problem continues. If it does then you have a hardware problem.
