Screen goes Dark on calls-call waiting

I've noticed that recently when I am on a call, the screen does dark and stays dark during the conversation, where it normally would switch on should the phone be moved away from my ear. It wasnt doing this when I first got it, and I am assuming it's some kind of app that is messing with that somehow? Its so bad that I cant answer the call waiting, it wont let me switch the screen back on when the other phone call is coming in. If I move the phone away from my ear, I can turn the phone on with the wake button but it doesnt wake automatically.

Is anyone else having this problem or is it most likely an app that is causing this? Can Elixir 2 be a culprit?
