Screen goes blank when using slide out keyboard

My wifes phone screen goes black when ever you open the keyboard all the way. If you go slow and wait for it to invert then slide it open its fine. Im thinking its hardware related, just not sure thou. When I restart her phone also sometimes the screen stays on the moto logo (but you hear the phone start and say droid twice) and never gets past it until u pull the battery and do it again.
