Saving Contacts to Google

Okay this may sound like a stupid question but I am a newbie. When I purchased my phone from Verizon, I had to put in my contacts as my other phone could not be saved. I put them in under "Phone" as it provides you two options (Gmail or Phone).

I am having the worse time understanding how this works. I imported my .CVS contacts into Gmail (after about 2 hours of trying to figure out how to do that). However, now when I go to text someone their name appears twice yet in People it does not. I also see that my contacts are linked to google.

When you put in a contact do you put them in as "gmail" or as "phone".

Please explain to me what I need to do to ensure all my contacts are being saved in Gmail so that if this lovely phone crashes I am not at a complete loss.

Thanks for helping the newbie....

I'm not entirely sure how it works but I do know that for people that were listed twice in my contacts, phone and google you could use the button in the upper right that looks like a link of chains and then choose which one you want to link it to and the information is merged. Not sure who is the winner if the fields are duplicated but this might help to clean things up for you a bit. I used this to link phone contacts to facebook friends too so it uses their facebook profile photo for the phone contact entry.

I do have it linked to google but still to no avail...I think I just need to reset everything and start all over LOL.

Let me try and help. You link to Gmail which of course is run by Google. Go into your contacts at Gmail and you can set them up real easy on line. They should sync right over to the Incredible.

Okay so I should be able to go to gmail, create all my contacts then just sync it to my phone once I hit sync on the phone? I don't need to hook up my usb or anything? Now if I was to say add another contact to my phone do I put it in as "PHONE" or "GOOGLE"?

Nope….it will all sync.

You can add them by phone too. You don't have to give it a catagory.

Remember, you have a Google phone. One big happy family…Phone, Gmail, Google Calendar….It's all tied together and when you sync your Google account then everything pops over. You probably have already done that.

Thanks for all the help! I did however try to sync everything and it didn't work. I had to import the .cvs card in order to get them in my gmail. So now I believe it's a problem of my phone not syncing?

Saving Contacts to Phone or Google

I understand what you are asking Jessica as I just got a new Samsung Fascinate phone. If I save contacts to both phone and google I end up with duplicate accounts. I like Google and know how to sync from my pc plus I like the calendar link. However, if my contacts are not saved in phone I cannot assign individual ringtones. I also like Google's backup but Verizon has the backup assistant which only works if contacts are in phone not Google. So I believe Jessica is asking if contacts should be saved in Google contact list or saved to phone? I am asking the same. Or is there a way to save in both but not have duplicate contact entries.:)

Has anyone found an answer to this question yet? I was so happy to find this question posted, but what is the answer?
