The research firm IDC reported global shipments and marketshare of the world's smartphone market, and their work confirms that Samsung has now taken the crown ad the largest phone manufacturer in the world, besting both Nokia and Apple. Here's a quote with a few more details, plus you can see some of the charts below:
In the first quarter of the year, Samsung shipped 98.3 million mobile phones, with Nokia and Apple in second and third place. In the smartphone-only charts, the Korean company shipped 42.2 million of its Android and Windows Phone handsets, while Cupertino shipped 35.1 million and Nokia shipped a paltry-by-comparison 11.9 million.

It looks as if both Samsung and Apple grew at the expense of Nokia and LG the most. Even the new upstart, ZTE climbed above LG when you factor in the dumb-phones along with smartphones.
