Today is a big day if you're interested in acquiring the next Galaxy S device. The new Samsung Galaxy S2 will be available this month, but for the time being you should know that it will launch with Gingerbread so you won't have to wait for the update. Also, somewhat worth noting, is that the thinness was not a measurement of the device's "thinnest spot", but actually the normal thinness of the phone.

I personally am very excited, and think this is a huge jump in the way phones are made. I remember the days when devices where in the 16mm range. These days, companies are actually working hard to produce a phone that isn't just feature packed, but also elegant and slim.

What are your thoughts on this new Galaxy S device?

BARCELONA, February 13, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announced the Samsung GALAXY S II (Model: GT-I9100), a beautifully thin (8.49mm) and lightweight, dual-core smartphone that combines an unmatched viewing experience with incredible performance.
The Samsung GALAXY S II uses Android™ 2.3 Gingerbread, the latest version of the world's fastest-growing mobile operating system. The next generation smartphone includes access to Samsung's four new content and entertainment hubs, seamlessly integrated to provide instant access to music, games, e-reading and social networking services.
"In 2011, we will take Samsung's leadership in Speed, Screen and Content to a whole new level," said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business. "With the GALAXY S II, Samsung wants to set the new standard of quality viewing on mobile, powerful performance, and slim and modern design."
"GALAXY S II is a natural and powerful evolution of GALAXY S. Building on the phenomenal success of the original Samsung GALAXY S, we are proud to unveil the ultimate smartphone. Consumers no longer have to contain themselves – the Samsung GALAXY S II allows them to design their own smart lives."
"We're pleased to see Samsung bring another Android-powered device to market to help grow the Android ecosystem," said Andy Rubin, Vice President of Engineering at Google.

Even with its unrivaled performance, the innovative Super AMOLED Plus display does not compromise battery performance. Beautiful phone. I said I would never go Samsung because of the update thing but I might just have to pick this up if LG doesn't come out with something dual core for Verizon.

So... This is on Verizon?

It hasn't been announced but more than likely it'll eventually be released for Verizon. At least if they follow the same strategy as for the first Galaxy S.

Yeah I would give it a while before it's on Verizon. I believe last time Verizon got it last out of the major carriers.

Interested to know why you think that. IMO Galaxy S II>LG Optimus 3d>Bionic>Thunderbolt>LG Revolution

Mostly because of the specs so the dual core phones are first. Galaxy S II is the best to me because of the 1gb of ram plus the front facing camera. It's also very slim. I just don't like the fact that there's no search key plus a camera button would be nice since there is no search key. If the Optimus 3d had a ffc then it would more than likely be in the front.
