Safe to Root the S4 on the Verizon Edge plan?

I would like to root my S4 but I am nervous that when its time to return the phone for a new one Verizon won't take it back. Will I be able to safely un-root the phone when its time to return it?

Last year it was stated that some newer phones had the ability to flag when they have been rooted, and it could not be reversed. The idea is that providers could then void your warranty if they detect you have rooted, even if you revert it. Problem is that some phones were coming up flagged as having been rooted when they hadn't. Further, I don't recall hearing of any cases where providers actually refused warranty service based on a root indication. Not sure if they gave up on it due to unreliability, or whether they realized they'd be shooting themselves in the foot by inhibiting Android "enthusiasts" who in the end create hype for the platform and help support growth.
