[RUMOR] Samsung to launch first Gingerbread powered device?

Oh the rumors. We can't stand them but we also can't stop reading them. It's a guilty pleasure of mine I must admit. So here's the latest rumor from Androidaandme and this one looks to be pretty solid.

Supposedly Samsung and Google are working together on a Google-experience phone that will be one of the first to ship with Gingerbread. The device will be ready late this year, but it will ONLY be for testers. Features include an AMOLED display and support for MasterCard PayPass. No carrier partners have been revealed.

Most of us were lead to believe that the Motorola Olympus aka Terminator aka T2 would be the first to ship with Gingerbread but this doesn't appear to be the case.

So what do you, the readers think? Could Samsung beat Moto to the punch or would Motorola not let that happen? For those of you looking at me cross eyed and saying "who cares CK!! This is crapola. Quit spreading crazy rumors and just do your job!!" I'd like to hear from you too.

I think the Olympus will be the first LTE Droid. Was hoping a new Droid would launch with Gingerbread though. Droids launched the last 2 versions of Android. Oh well, more phones means more choices. All good.

My $.02
I'm a motorola fan. I'm not super picky if they don't drop their fone first. All i ask for is that they take their time to do it justice. (reasonable, no more then 2 months, after sum1's "first") So that we can have a mildly clean android, no "blur" or "bloatware". (but its late here, i might be dreaming already...) dancedroid

Thanks, CK, I appreciate you making clear that this is a rumor; you are solid, my man. I wonder if this will have any impact on the release date of the Moto T2/Olympus.

If Samsung drops with Gingerbread first, it will be punishment for Moto for sending the T2 to AT&T first!

Whatever the case, I'd love to see the T2 on VZW be year's end. I can hope....

The bolded text is the key. If the Samsung unit is not for the general public, then it is not a "shipping" model.

First to ship with Gingerbread would refer to the first Gingerbread device available to the general public. Which could still very well be a Moto device. A device does no good to the everyday user if it's not available.
