Hi all, I am new to using the HTC Incredible 2, and all smart phones in general. Had an old flip phone that I only used in emergencies, so this is all pretty new to me. I am a retired Customer Engineer from HP and was given this older HTC Incredible 2 from a friend that just had it sitting in a drawer for two years. I have installed GrooveIP and RingTo so that I do not have to use up my minutes to make or receive phone calls. The phone was originally on a Verizon network and I have put my old flip phone's SIM in which is T-Mobile which has a 10cents a minute plan. If I do not use any minutes then my $10 per year minimum refill makes it pretty inexpensive to have a phone. So I guess you can say I am just cheap, I am trying to avoid any contracts and high monthly fees. I have a good WiFi network at home so all is working well so far.

Welcome to the forum! That's quite a thrifty plan you've come up with to use the device, but since you're new to smartphones, that's likely a good way to get started.

Hopefully, we can fully convert you and you'll be wishing you had at least a mobile data plan after getting used to how quick and easy it is to look things up/etc. while on the move.

In any case, glad you found us and joined us and don't hesitate to let us all know if you need any help understanding this new device!

Welcome to our little hole in the wall... The ladies bathroom is out of order so if the men's room door is locked, please be patient.

I agree with @Jonny Kansas. Starting with a thrifty (not "cheap") plan makes the most sense for a newbie to the Android smartphone world, but if you stick around as long as I have, you'll eventually be shopping for a much bigger plan with lots of data.

As you become more and more accustomed to having the entire world at your fingertips you're bound to use more and more data.

My advice to you is to explore and have fun. We are all here for you if you run into snags and I assure you that we can get you out of virtually any jam.
