I have been trying to root my motorola droid for the longest. Everytime i try it its obviously not the right file. I need some pointers on rooting my droid.

Try using the search feature for the boards, there are lots of posts about "rotting" and solutions to problems many owners have come across

Never tried that but hey, if it works it would definately be easier. You just don't learn anything in the process.

very true. i did it on my friends droid but I knew how to do it so I had to explain everything to him (nandroid, SPRecovery,etc..)

so to rephrase, root using the link i provided but make sure you understand all the steps/effects of rooting.
