Rooted Droid 1-Running REALLY slow

So I rooted my Droid about 2 months ago and I have noticed it has progressively gotten slower and slower. Sometimes the unlock/lock sound will go off a minute or two after I unlock/lock my phone. Pulling up my text message app takes like 20 seconds usually and typing is so laggy it makes me want to throw it out of a speeding vehicle. I like the tweaks that I have due to the Root, but I am so fed up with how slow my phone is that I am ready to get it back to factory.

I am a noob to this whole rooting thing, so please speak stupid to me because I have no idea how to "overclock" and what not. I want something that is going to work great all the time, not something that I have to set for each little thing I do, i.e. playing games, or sitting idle.

PLEASE HELP! I AM SO FRUSTRATED!

Thank you!

I really don't know. I used rom manager and liquid something or other. That's all I know. I'm sorry I don't have the answers.

Sounds like you have CWRecovery and are running a liquid Rom...overclocking will definitely speed things up, also if it's an older version of liquid updating it will help

Can you look in settings/about phone/ and get the Rom version number and android version

Here is the index of liquid "recommended" kernels link start with 1000 and work your way up - 1200 is probably the fastest I would suggest

To flash a kernel get it to the root of your SD card, boot into recovery and select install, choose the kernel and flash - you will also need SetCPU from the market...costs a few bucks

No problem, also if you have root explorer you can navigate to the data folder and delete the dalvik cache folder in it's entirety by longpressing it and selecting delete...then reboot your device - this should also help
