Returning X Cant adjust backlight

wondering if anyone else is having this issue. battery drains quickly brightness is turned all the way up (not on auto) i can lower it on the slider but it wont actually dim the screen. i took it to verizon and a tech checked it and said they would send me out a new one....after the 27th

There is a power control widget under the android widgets that has low, medium, and high settings to dim the screen. I added it to one of my screens. Hope that helps.
EDIT: Didn't realize there is a brightness control in the settings. My brightness dims when I slide it.
