Resetting D2G with bad esn

I have my ex-wife's old D2G that she owes a ****load of money on and want to use it as a clock radio on wireless. But I can't get on the play store because she changed the password to the primary email account associated with the phone. Is there a way I can reset it and get it re-activated so I can use it for something other than a paperweight? Or is there a way I can get rid of that email address for one that I have the password to?
