New to these forums and don't really know if this is the place for this question so forgive me if its out of place.

I have a HTC desire HD android phone and im with the vodaphone network. There are several Apps on the phone which seem to have come factory standard which i have no use for.
I would be happy enough just leaving them on the phone with their icons deleted but they keep on trying to update themselves and its driving me nuts.

I don't want to just turn off automatic updates to solve this problem I would really like to take a proactve approach so i am in control of the programs on my phone in the same way i am on my computer.

If anyone has any tips or links to help me get rid of these annoying apps they would be much appreciated.

I have only read briefly on it so i may stumble apon the answer myself at some point but can i screw up the rooting process and break my phone?

Yes, but.... You need to search for the RUU for the desire. That is the software package that came on your phone when you opened the box. If its available, you can always reinstall the RUU to get you back to a stock unrooted phone. The rooting process is usually pretty straight forward and if you follow all the steps exactly you should be ok. Once you have rooted your phone and BEFORE you do anything else, CREATE A BACKUP! I said it that way because its super important. Your backup is your safe place to return to should something go wrong and a ROM install not work right, which will happen occasionally. Its not the end of the world. Just flash your backup and you are good to try again. Good luck!
