Red light on left hand side of phone.

I have looked up this issue and someone had mentioned it was a proxi light. How do you restore the phone to normal without the red light showing and without a master reset?

Yeah its your proximity sensro it usually only lights up during a call or when your battery is dying.

Try rebooting your phone or a battery pull
