[ROM] |RAZRX v1.0| |12/14/2011|

I had read on another droid razr forum a few days ago he tweeted that he had bricked his phone when installing the revised version of his razx rom for the new ota.

Definitely bad news for development progress. Looks like Th3ory and Nitro have both lost their razr phones according to their tweets... Theory is boot looping and Nitro sent his back to VZW for a replacement and got a bionic in return.. Way to go Verizon !!!!!

Th3ory just PM'd me....he says he DOESN'T have a bricked Razr....but he's sending all his posts via his new Nexus Galaxy.

On a side note. I see lots of comments but only seven have marked as installed. Can that be true or are some forgetting to mark? Also please nominate as dotm as Th3ory kicks donkey!

I disagree -it does.
Less processes running in the background=less processor time= less battery drain
Some of the bloat runs in the background.

Well i have been running an experiment between this ROM and stock with nothing frozen....switching between tightly configured Juice Defender and Smart Actions....

EVERY SINGLE TEST has proven STOCK to have better battery life over Th3ory ROM regardless if SA or JD is active.

so....based off of that..with all of that bloat present and accounted for....I am going to have to disagree with you.....again

I second that, but change the last line to lots of bloat runs in the background!

So I second my disagreement with you too

you can check out the thread here

I haven't posted in a few days due to Christmas....but I get at least 3 more hours of use off of stock bloated ROM. BUT....I like Th3ory's better anyway.

I don't really care about battery life as I have car dock, additional car chargers, about 20 house chargers, HD dock, and so on. All together I have like 30 chargers.....so if battery life becomes an issue it is totally my fault.

For now i will agree to disagree. I also don't like smart actions, lol. I used wifi, bluetooth, locations, display etc. and the rules interfere with one another. By the time I readjusted everything it was almost as if i had no rules to begin with. :/

I don't doubt your results and appreciate the thread, as I am the same way at heart. I am curious to know if it is the same for more than just one though. Battery life/phone performance may vary from phone to phone and region to region due to even small things such as signal. Also it is nearly impossible to do a controlled battery test as you have no way of predicting calls, texts, emails, and even just how often you pick up the phone and light it up just to see the time. I will have to do some more playing myself with your suggestions.

What about a thread about just that? You would get multiple findings on battery life and Stock vs Rom and/or JD (which i loved) vs SA (which i could learn to). Just a thought.

nerdslogic,
+1 for the detailed review of juice defender, however you have not proved anything regarding the effects of bloat on battery longevity.
in your [very detailed] tests you compared a bloated rom with a power manager app against a half-debloated rom with a different power manager app.

your statement: "removal of bloat does not affect battery life", cannot be proven by your results as you are comparing apples to oranges.

if you want to prove your point, you need to compare the stock rom with no smart actions enabled vs a rom with the bloat disabled.

if i may suggest a different app for managing power: CPU Tuner. Open source and free. You can control the governor, clocks, wifi state, bt, radios, etc. developers are very helpful and responsive.

your review also ignores one key element in batt consumption: the governors. in one of your posts you stated you were impressed by how the battery was handled in the 1st half vs. the 2nd.: this can be explained because the governor used could be different depending on battery state. you are a ver heavy user (your screenshots confirm this): games may trigger a higher processor state with a different governor than texting.

i hope you don't take offense to my criticism. i think your review is very detailed and the format is perfect. however, i do not think you can back your statement regarding bloat with what you chose to compare. while you may ultimately be right (which i doubt ;) ) you can't use your results as evidence. if there are any droidX rubix users (old stuff) ask them about battery life without bloat and you'll know what i mean.

Also seems to me that after switching between non-safe and safe mode, would you not need to calibrate the battery to make sure your working with a clean batstat.bin fle. It would almost mimic like you are flashing a ROM every time you switch operating system.

Back on Topic (RAZRX v 1.0 |12/14/2011| Almost two weeks and nothing new for Razr

Locked Bootloader = Failed Development. Looks like the development for the Razr has come to a halt... The Razr has been shadowed by the Mighty Unlocked NexusG... Looking at the tweets it is all about the Nexus..... It appears the Nexus also has about a dozen custom ROMs available.

I think it has more to do with no recovery files. The D2 had a locked boot loader and there was a lot of development for that phone. I really hope Razr dev hasn't halted, I'll be quite sad.

i agree -we may see some action when (if ever) we get the fast boot files.

i don't have safe-strap, but i think that would not be necessary as each rom (system) would have it's own. maybe you'll need to clear it the first time after install.
that's the great thing about nerdslogic's test: he used the same phone thus eliminating the phone as a variable -no 2 phones are alike.
