Razr as Hotspot

My Razr hotspot works okay on some websites, but locks up on any website that requires a password. From other forums this seems to be a common problem with droids. Does anyone have a solution?

I'm using the stock hotspot app. I've found that the phone works if it is tethered, which limits its use to one device.
