Google engineer Benson Leung has been giving us the low down on which USB Type-C cables are and aren't supported per the Type-C spec. This has been invaluable information as using the wrong type of USB Type-C cable can do severe damage to your device.
He recently released a statement that Qualcomm's Quick Charge is not supported over usb Type-C. In fact it is forbidden under the Type-C spec. Specifically the spec forbids the variable voltages that QC uses to quickly and efficiently charge your battery. New devices like the HTC 10 and LG G5 have both USB Type-C and Quick Charge 3.0 support. Upon hearing this news from Benson you might worry that charging up your new phone may render it useless.
This is not the case. According to Qualcomm they have been able to meet the demands of the Type-C spec when implementing fast charge solutions. There have been no reports of problems so far. Apparently the specific reason that Google's Nexus 5x and 6p don't use QC3.0 is due to concerns of this spec. Hopefully LG and HTC's implementation won't make your phone explode!
