Question about the .591 Kernel

Say I was on normal gingerbread (.573) with no ROMs flashed. Would I be able to use that as an update or would I have to SBF back to Froyo 3.3.340? Also is this Kernel included in the v0.5 LGB? Lastly, would I be able to go right from v0.1 to any given version of LGB? Answers to all would be great as well as some tips and suggestions. Thanks.

partial answer: the liberty donate toolbox has a download for liberty gingerbread v0.5 and a separate one for the .591 kernel.
from what others have said, and it was true for me, too, install the kernel first (despite the instructions.)

other questions, i do not know.
