Question about screen replacement by Motorola

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section but I'm new and don't really know my way around the forums yet.

Anyway, I just recently got my Droid Razr Maxx and I cracked it while pulling it out of my pocket, it slipped out of my hand and hit the floor hard. It has a small dent on the side and then a couple of cracks leading down to the bottom of the phone. But the real problem is that there is no screen display. When I turn my phone on the only thing that appears is a green hue about an inch long from the bottom. I can still receive messages and calls, and my phone vibrates.

I called Motorola and they said they can fix it for free, I even told them the story about how I dropped it and cracked it. It's under a year old, but this seemed to good to be true. So my question is am I going to get a bill after they fix it and tell me that when they saw my phone it actually wasn't under warranty?

Hello and welcome to the droid forums :) in this case I would have to say that there's a great chance that you're going to get charged. Warranty doesn't cover accidental damage... its about 150$, but the device will still carry its warranty.. :)

Sorry for the bad news :)

This is of course, my oponion

DROID RAZR MAXXIMIZED!!!! PREPARE TO BE VANQUISHED!!!

Problem Description: DISPLAY: Internal Display - Display lens separating;
Repair Cost: $0

That is what the Motorola rep put in my return receipt in the email, and told me to put it in the box, does this help any?

I'm thinking that since you dropped it, and they will see that, then it will be a paid repair... I could be wrong.. :) I hope they repair it for free.. :cool:

94lt1 is right but in your case, perhaps you've found that individual who is willing to give you a break. The email indicates so. I would be cautiously optimistic. If they see the dent, even though you told them, they may decide it's too obvious to write off. On the other hand, they may simply be rewarding you for your honesty. I wish you the best of luck. Your honesty does deserve recognition. :hail:

Here's a picture of the dent and crack if anyone was curious. The crack is a little bigger than the picture (best I could get)

On a sidenote, I'll be shipping this in and don't know how to turn off the battery due to my touchscreen not working, anyway to do it without the touchscreen?

-Thanks, you guys are all so nice with a noobie. :happy3:
