Question about HTC sync on windows

Hey people. I have a question I downloaded the drivers and the HTC sync but I cannot get my phone to show up when I hook it to the computer. I can get the phone to charge with the comp but when I switched to mass storage the phone doesn't get read in HTC sync. I downloaded everything and the program runs but doesn't find my phone. Any advice is appreciated

The phone needs to be in "sync" mode, not USB mass storage, or charge only. Sync should be the first option under them.

Thanks Mr smith but what about when I'm in fastboot and the phone isn't read on the computer. Reason I ask is I was trying to do the autounlocker and couldn't get the computer to find the phone
