Putting Google maps on a Milestone..

I have the Verizon Droid on order, but I've been preaching and a friend asked me if he bought the Milestone (Canada/Europe version) with its multi-touch right out of the box, would he be able to get the US benefit of Google awesome navigation. I'm not qualified to answer and found it interesting enough to post it.
