Purchase in-store for better return service? (but pay more)

Some folks get a solid device on the first go. Others have to take their phones back for a replacement for various issues.

Is it better to pay the extra cash and get the phone from Best Buy to have the ability to go back in and swap the device easily if needed? [Compare to buying from Amazon for example] The diff is about $50 or so iirc.

If I need a number port and it might be tricky, then that would be another reason to go into a store and get the port done while I am standing there, right?

I could be wrong... can I buy from Amazon and then get a device replaced at a Verizon store?

What are your thoughts on the value of buying in-store?

Thanks,
Macnab

Check out Costco if you can. I just got mine for $149 there and it's an official reseller for VZW. That would save you the $50 and you'd have a place to bring it back to if needed.

I bought an EVO from Amazon and sent it back. Couldn't have been any easier. It's all done online. They went UPS the next day to pick it up.

I have always done all my swaps for hardware issues on the original Droid with Verizon. They sent three or four replacements for lousy audio. I can't imagine waiting in a store- they're packed with people and the slowest way to get things fixed.

I've had 2 replacements, with no self inflicted problems. I bought mine in store (Verizon). But as far as replacement goes they came from 2 different states both times. I think most stores don't carry the numbers to switch them out if you have a faulty device. So it doesn't matter. Get it where you can for the cheapest, if you have issues, deal with warranty.

JMO:)
