There have been a few devices that have been able to maintain root through ota updates thanks to Chainfire's SuperSU OTA Survival mode. The Galaxy S4 was on of the devices to benefit from this. Earlier today Chainfire released a psa on his Google+ account explaining that if you leave SuperSU OTA Survival mode enabled before updating to Kit Kat you can run into some issues. With this enabled the OTA update will fail. YOu should turn off the SuperSU OTA Survival, accept the update, and then re root afterwards. Chainfire also stated that he would like to have this bug squashed by the time the new update is released for the app.
