Probs: Droid Maxx seen as a Media Device by Windows

Is there any way to get Windows to see the Droid Maxx as a volume rather than a media device? It's so annoying that it won't let me choose multiple files from it if I want to upload them onto the Internet, or it defaults to Windows Picture Viewer to view pix rather than my default IrfanView and it won't show any thumbnails in Explorer for photos taken by previous celphones.

Also it would be great if it would stop popping open a browser window on my PC for various Verizon apps.

Thanks,
boNes

First, I am a Mac user, not Windows, and I think I've connected my phone to my computer maybe three times in the 10 weeks I've had it.

But, from home, Settings->storage. Tap the three dot menu on the upper right. Tap USB computer connection. Do you have "Media device (MTP") or "Camera (PTP)"?

Sorry, but being connected as a media device MTP is as close as you'll get. Although, in that configuration you should be able to view and manipulate your files with the computer. When connected as a camera device, you will only be able to use/view the camera folder. Yeah, it does suck. It's the trade-off we get for advanced technology. It's what they think that we'll want.

fat-fingered and Maxx-ed out.

The problem with the old behavior is that it unmounted storage from the phone while it was connected to the PC, which could be problematic for apps that need to access storage. This way both the phone and the PC have access to storage at the same time.

I had a feeling the answer would be that. Haha they think they know what we want. Well sometimes. I just tried changing it to camera from MTP. Not much difference except now you can't see ANY files other than the DCIM folder haha.

Thanks,

Try loading Motorola device manager first before you connect your phone. Could be some drivers that the computer lacks.

That was the problem I had, had to load the moto drivers before it would let me do anything. Now easytether is working and I can transfer files

I bought a USB On-The-Go cable like this one (FRYS.com | MICRO CONNECTORS) and I just use my thumb drives. It works great on the Maxx. It still is a bit inconvenient, but I don't have to worry about installing drivers on machines which aren't online and other worries like that.

The Verizon apps are part of the Motorola Backup assistant. You can turn that off by right clicking the moto icon in your system tray and selecting When Device Connects... > Do Nothing. I attached a screenshot 4 u.

Thx
