Problem solved, but of course not by Verizon, but good old Google searches. The problem is you are sending or receiving emails from an Outlook 2007 or 2010 user. It sends emails using RTF and gives you a "Winmail.dat" error but even changing my email settings to HTML didn't work. Here's the fix that worked perfectly for me:Outlook 2010 and the age old winmail.dat problem. Just go directly to the the second post in the forum thread. I suggest doing it the manual way. It was quick and easy.
Hope this helps!

The problem is not your Droid. It's the Microsoft email client sending the email. The emails you receive have the "winmail.dat" attachments because of the way Outlook sends emails. If you send yourself an email from let's say Gmail or Yahoo with an attachment, you will find the attachment opens.
