Porting themes

I know this has prob been asked 100,000 times, but here it goes anyways. I know there is a universal theme porter out there, but how does one go about porting a theme if they do not want to use it? I want to get into porting them myself so I know what all is involved in the process like going from rom to rom, blurless to blurry, etc. I have searched and tried to research, but haven't had much luck. Anyone have any pointers or anything?

First, learn about the tools available. The theme Porter are good for some things, but you could still have to do work yourself, especially with blurry to blurless. Get familiar with apk manager and the Ultimate Themeing Guide. Google it, it will come up. Then start tearing apart the framework. The colorChange.jar is nice for some stuff as well as the xUltimate themeimg tools.
