Pop-up SMS while already in message.

I'm wondering if there's an app or setting where I can have pop-ups enabled (currently using handcent with the pop-up SMS app), but have it not issue a pop-up when I'm already in the current message?

Ex. I'm in the thread texting person X and they send another message as I'm typing and it sends another pop-up even though I'm in the conversation with person X already.

Suggestions? Thanks!
