Pokemon Ruby

So I just got the gameboid, and got Pokemon Ruby, but when I get to the New Game/ Options screen, it's not letting me press New Game. I can go up and down, but i can't press the Start or Select button. Does anyone know what the problem is here?

use "a" button

this might be the prob, when selecting new game u have to use the "a" button to select it not "start" or "select". if ur still having probs check key settings under settings option and configure ur button config.
