Please, I'm frustrated trying to get an mp3 as text alert

I have a small mp3 file that I want as a text alert. I can't figure out how to get that to happen. I've read what I can find about this topic in the Droid Forums and elsewhere on the web. Last night I actually went to the Verizon Store in Redwood City, CA and even there they couldn't help me with this issue. WTF!!! Why is it so difficult. I miss my BB Storm and I never thought I'd say that.

For me I just go into my Text message app, hit menu, settings, scroll down to Select ringtone, I then get a choice of android system or select music. Select music seems to list all my mp3's both short ringtones and full songs.

If your problem is getting it on your phone. Connect the phone as mass storage to your computer and drop it in the (your drive letter may be different) E:\media\audio\ringtones (or notifications) folder on your phone. It then should show up in the android system ringtones/notifications list.

Hope this helps.

Wow, totally don't have anything like that. All I have is a "Ringtones" list which starts at "Default Ringtone" and ends at "Voila".

Try dropping a copy of the mp3 in the two folders I listed (E:\media\audio\ringtones ... and E:\media\audio\notifications) then reboot the phone and check again. My short mp3's and Blackberry ringtones I transferred over all show up in the list.
