I am trying to buy a new battery for my D2G and I saw a really good deal on amazon, a standard Motorola battery for droid and droid 2 for only 5 bucks. Can anyone tell me if that battery will work with my phone???

Yes, it will. The D1, D2, and D2G all use the same battery
