Picture Messages only last 2 seconds

How do I set the view time on my text message pictures? I open a text message with a picture and upon tapping the picture the view timer is set for 2 seconds. I've been reading various forums without a fix. I've looked all through the phone's manual, also without success. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try long pressing the image and saving it to your gallery.

Thanks for the reply, but I really didn't want the hassle of saving to the gallery when most times I view and delete the message.

Well you could always save it in the gallery, then delete it after you've checked it out, I know its not ideal though. Maybe someone else will be by with a solution.

If you are using Handcent, Long press and choose view flat slide show. I think the stock app has a similar option too.

When you open a picture message, it actually shows the picture as a slide show. The picture comes up for a few seconds and then goes to the next picture... of course, if there is only one picture up, it is shown for a few seconds and then goes back to the message. To view the picture for longer you need to pause the "slideshow."

To do this, open up the picture in the picture message and then tap on the picture. This will make some icons appear towards the bottom of the screen. The icon in the middle is a Pause/Play button. Tap the pause button to pause the "slideshow" and you can view the picture as long as you want.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I did communicate with HTC. It was explained to me that with the update of Droid came the conversion of all pictures to a slideshow format. Thus the problem has been created. Needless to say that I expressed my disappointment with such lunacy. We all know where my complaint is going to end up. BTW....they did suggest "handscent". That's funny!

Handcent runs circles around the stock app. There are so many more options, and it takes texting to a whole new level. There is a newer option called locate which will text your gps coordinates to another smartphone user, and link them into a nap for you too. I used the stock messaging app for about 2 hours before I changed.
